Hans Zimmer Revealed and Friends

Hans Zimmer has never performed to a live public audience...until 10-11 October.

Hans Zimmer Revealed and Friends Live at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, London.

The seats we had were at the very back of the theater, however, they were amazing seats. We could see everything and everyone even the choir!

'And Friends' included Lebo M (The Lion King) and Pharrell Williams (Spiderman). We attended the Saturday night showing, which Hans informed us was the first time world premier of Lebo M performing The Lion King with him. Being the biggest Lion King fan EVER, I may have felt slightly honoured and privileged to have witnessed such an amazing performance.

This is the concert list. Each performance lasted anywhere between 5 and 20 minutes. For the performance of Gladiator (one of my favourites) they performed a shortened version of the entire score. It lasted for about 20 minutes and included vocals by Miriam Blennerhassett for the award winning 'Now We Are Free' performance, originally sung by Lisa Gerrard.

Before commencing with some of the performances, Hans Zimmer gave a short story of how he came to write the score for that particular film, and what influenced him at the time. For example, The Lion King was written for his daughter and influenced by his father.

Hans has received a total of 10 Golden Globe Nominations, 10 Grammy Nominations and 9 Oscar Nominations. These nominations include Sherlock Holmes, Lion King, Rain Man, Gladiator, Inception and the Prince of Egypt.

He also received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010.

So as you can see I was completely blown away by the performances of this evening. Hans Zimmer has always been my favourite composer ever since he wrote the score for The Lion King. That score made me feel every emotion possible in the space of one track. Then he went on to compose Pirates of the Caribbean, Sherlock Holmes and the unforgettable Inception. He also collaborated with Steve Jablonksy for the Transformers scores and has also been known to work with James-Newton Howard, although this work tends to remain un-credited.

Other film scores composed by Hans Zimmer include:

  • Rush
  • Man of Steel
  • The Dark Knight
  • 12 Years a Slave
  • King Arthur
And many many more...
